Dollfus- Hip Hip Decay Sculpture
Product details
Dollfus stands tall and alert, a curious figure poised between past and present. Created by Ballarat artist Suzanne McRae, Dollfus is part of the Hip Hip Decay collection—an exquisite series of handcrafted sculptures that capture the haunting charm of "beautiful things now decrepit."
This fox-like creature is assembled from calico, clay, wire, and timeworn fabrics, showcasing McRae’s talent for blending fine detail with dreamlike storytelling. Dollfus has a soft brown tail, oversized fur ears, and deep, expressive eyes invite you into a world both nostalgic and uncanny. Her clothing—an earthy patchwork of vintage lace and green linen—recalls a bygone gentility, lovingly mended and faded with age.
At 51 cm tall on her stand, Dollfus evokes the feeling of a forgotten woodland type, elegant in her decay. Every hand-stitched seam and delicate trim speaks of Suzanne’s background as a costume designer, infusing each sculpture with soul and story.
There’s something cute and welcoming in Dollfis’s stance—a dignified survivor of a crumbling fairytale, dressed for a ball that ended long ago.
