This elegant vintage kokeshi by prize-winning artist Miyashita Hajime features a beautifully slender form and a gentle tilt of the head that gives her a wonderfully sweet, serene expression. Her kimono is hand-painted with autumn leaves in warm tones, paired with a simple natural wooden obi that highlights the artistry of the grain.
She retains her original kanzashi in her hair, adding an authentic traditional touch. The collectible nature of this piece is further confirmed by the artist’s stamp on the base. Miyashita Hajime began creating kokeshi in 1959 and worked until his retirement in 2006. His dolls were admired by many, including Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako, who collected his creative works.
Dating from the 1970s, this kokeshi is in very good vintage condition, especially for her age.
Height: 34cm
A beautiful example of creative Sosaku kokeshi craftsmanship and a wonderful addition to any collection.
