VINTAGE PAIR OF KOKESHI BY SHIDO SHOUZAN

This Vintage Kokeshi is by the Famous Shozan Shido (1932-1995). The design is a minimalist work and uses the natural wood to its full potential. The kokeshi are wearing minomushi (Rain/Snow Coat) a type of clothing worn by the farmers and rural people in the mountains to protect them from rain and snow.  Natural and colored woods are used to represent the mino, and the expressive faces and colored undergarments highlight each doll. The doll is signed on the bottom of the stand.

Set on a stand the tallest kokeshi is 29cm the smaller is 25cm. This pair on a stand are in excellent condition.
