An endearing matched pair of vintage creative Japanese kokeshi dolls showcasing a classic folk art aesthetic. The figures are carved with hollowed-top bamboo-style body forms, beautifully hand-painted with vibrant blue and purple water iris flowers (Ayame/Shōbu) set against lush green foliage. The right figure is inscribed on the front with 水郷めぐり (Suigou-meguri / "Tour of the Water Regions"), a famous tourist motif celebrating the scenic riverside boat rides of Suigou.
Each doll exhibits a unique headpiece: one featuring a traditional top knot (chonmage/motodori) and the other a red and black patterned court-style head covering, with cheerful, finely drawn facial details.
The back of each doll is stamped with an authentic square artisan brand mark (hankou):
