FAMOUS KOKESHI BY SHIDO SHOUZAN

This Vintage Kokeshi is by the Famous Shozan Shido (1932-1995).
The design is a minimalist work and uses the natural wood to its full potential. The kokeshi is wearing minomushi (Rain/Snow Coat) a type of clothing worn by the farmers and rural people in the mountains to protect them from rain and snow. Master Sekaguchi creates this doll in many variations and sizes. Dark woods and carving techniques are used to represent the mino, and the expressive face a light wood is used.
The artist's hanko seal is embossed underneath the doll.
This kokeshi is 29cm tall and in excellent condition.
