LARGE KOKESHI - KOBAYASHI INOSUKE - ROSY CHEEKS

This beautiful kokeshi by Kobayashi is titled "Ringokko" (Rosy cheeks) which are obvious on her cute face. Her kimono is beautifully depicted with subtle hot poker work and delicate hand painting. Her kimono is carved giving the impression she is wrapping herself against the elements.

Kobayashi created a limited number of dolls, of which most show simple to elaborate treatment of the “kimono, illustrating brocade fabric to give character to his pieces. Eyes on all of his dolls always express dignity and humility.

Kobayashi Inosuke was born in 1931 in Gunma prefecture and won multiple awards in his career for his kokeshi dolls, He also won the Prime Minister award in 1979. His dolls are usually tall and elegant featuring natural wood colors combined with colorful kimonos.

This kokeshi is in excellent condition with artist signature on the back (see pic) and stands at 40 cm tall.
