Leppington-Hip Hip Decay Sculpture
Product details
"Leppington" is a sculpture by Suzanne McRae, part of her Hip Hip Decay series — a collection known for its whimsical and slightly eerie animal characters that merge storytelling with fine craftsmanship.
In Leppington, McRae presents a one-of-a-kind long eared hare crafted with her signature combination of nostalgic charm and theatrical flair. The sculpture evokes a quiet, contemplative character — often animal-like but infused with human melancholy or wisdom. Its body is hand-formed using materials such as clay, wire, and calico, then painted and adorned with intricate, vintage textiles. All this nods to McRae’s previous life as a costume designer.
The tall ears are made from vintage broderie anglaise & fur with stitched embellishments and raw edges stand upright, lending a dramatic, otherworldly presence.
His clothing combines delicate and eccentric elements: A crinkled, pinstripe dress coat with a raw edge gathered trim, a jabot and bow tie.
His feet are wrapped in red velvet upon hid plynth.
