PETITE VINTAGE KOKESHI - SHIDO SHOUZAN
Product details
Shido Shouzan is widely regarded by both Kokeshi collectors and critics as one of the most influential artists in the world of Sosaku Kokeshi doll making. His exceptional design sensibility, minimalistic approach to using color, and incorporation of simple yet elegant shapes distinguished him from his contemporaries, solidifying his position as one of the most sought-after artists during the influential era of the 1960s.
Shido Shouzan had a deep passion for exploring the art of blending various wood varieties to achieve the desired outcome and add depth to his creations. Additionally, he took great pleasure in crafting slender, towering dolls that mirrored the appearance of the tall, slender trees commonly found across Japan.
These petite kokeshi are a fine example of Shido-san's work. Only small but carries all the characteristics of his fine work.
