TOTTORI-HIP HIP DECAY SCULTURE
Product details
"Tottori" is a sculpture by Suzanne McRae, part of her Hip Hip Decay series — a collection known for its whimsical and slightly eerie animal characters that merge storytelling with fine craftsmanship.
In Tottori, McRae presents a one-of-a-kind long eared hare crafted with her signature combination of nostalgic charm and theatrical flair. The sculpture evokes a quiet, contemplative character — often animal-like but infused with human melancholy or wisdom. Its body is hand-formed using materials such as clay, wire, and calico, then painted and adorned with intricate, vintage textiles. All this nods to McRae’s previous life as a costume designer.
The tall ears are made from red fabric & fur with stitched embellishments and raw edges stand upright, lending a dramatic, otherworldly presence.
Her clothing combines delicate and eccentric elements: A crinkled, off-white dress with a raw hem, a single sleeve made of black-and-white striped fabric, adding asymmetry and personality and a large, brown bow is tied neatly at the neck.
Her feet are wrapped in white fabric and bound with lace ties, the feet are perched atop a black pedestal, giving the piece a theatrical, doll-on-display quality. She is 67cm tall on her pedestal.
"Tottori" sits at the intersection of fantasy and folk art. It feels like a relic from a dark fairytale—something both tender and haunting. The materials look weathered and time-worn, adding to its storybook mystique.
