This Ryoka kokeshi is an amazingly beautiful example of kokeshi by Aoki Ryoka. Aoki Ryoki is very well known for her Hinagiku kokeshi which was produced in 1969 when Princess Michiko purchased her.
Aoki Ryoka is a well-known female kokeshi artist who has her own kokeshi business with mostly female employees. A pioneer in the field, with many award-winning designs and three Prime Minister awards under her belt. Her work ranges from museum-quality pieces to ordinary children’s toys.
This exquisite vintage kokeshi doll stands approximately 38cm tall and features a charming, child-like bob hairstyle that perfectly complements her beautifully detailed kimono. The body is hand-painted with intricate cross-hatching to represent a meisan kimono design, showcasing the artisan's refined craftsmanship. The doll is signed by the artist and remains in excellent condition—an elegant addition for collectors of traditional Japanese folk art.
