VINTAGE KOKESHI BY KISHI SADAO

In 1960, this Kokeshi design celebrated Korobe Gorge's Wheat Festival. In this beautifully proportioned doll, wheat is depicted as a golden brown hue when harvested.
Wood burning in relief brings out the beauty of the Kimono wheat design. To highlight this detail, a three-dimensional ring of different wood is used to identify the waist. In the face, angled eyes are combined with a hint of a nose and lips. A Mage is shown on the top of the head with complex hairstyles and hair falling both sides.
This doll has artist stamp & onsen where it was purchased on the bottom. This kokeshi has a small dent on the back of the body and a dark mark on back of the head but is still a very good kokeshi for it's age and for the collector of Kishi Sadao. This doll is 39cm tall.
