VINTAGE KOKESHI by TATSUYA
Product details
This kokeshi by Tatsuya depicts a young girl moon-watching with pigtails flying, and tilted head looking upwards. An exquisite hand-painted Tonbo (dragonflies) sits on the Variegated coloration of the garment, illustrating the contemporary nature surrounding Kokeshi making, and showing the artist's technical expertise.
This kokeshi is named Akatonbo and is 21cm tall and in excellent condition with artist signature on the bottom. It comes in I think it's original box. There are some marks on one pigtail (see pic)
Tonbo is a symbol of the Samurai meaning ‘never giving up', as the dragonfly doesn’t move backwards. The dragonfly is perhaps the oldest symbol in Japan, and the symbol of the dragonfly was often worn by the Samurai by the clothes or as ornaments as a reminder to never give up, but instead look towards the future.
