Vintage Lacquered Creative Kokeshi Doll
Product details
Make a dramatic addition to your collection with this genuinely striking, rare Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi doll. Standing at an impressive 30cm tall, this piece features a brilliant, mirror-like lacquered finish—a specialized decorative technique that is highly uncommon for traditional wood-turned kokeshi dolls and intensely sought after by collectors.
The statuesque, teardrop-shaped body is enveloped in a lustrous, deep crimson lacquer. Painted over this glossy red canvas are magnificent, dark-shaded peonies (botan) accented with delicate, shimmering details at their centers. In Japanese culture, the peony is celebrated as the "King of Flowers," symbolizing royalty, bravery, and good fortune.
Her beautifully smooth, high-shine black hair is styled into an elegant, towering traditional updo. Nestled perfectly in her hair is its original kanzashi (decorative hairpin), featuring a charming, glitter-dusted gold and red spherical topper that provides a wonderful pop of texture.
