Vintage Oshin Kokeshi Set 1950's

This beautifully hand-painted set of vintage Sōsaku Kokeshi captures the tender bond of an Oshin and her charges—the devoted caretaker central to traditional Japanese family life. The set depicts the Oshin with a baby carried on her back, alongside a small sibling dressed in a red kimono. Together, they convey both emotional warmth and the refined simplicity characteristic of the Sōsaku movement.

The Oshin figure stands 11 cm tall and remains in beautiful condition considering her age. She features a charming nodding head (noddy head), a detail that helps date the piece to the late 1950s. Her headscarf and hair are delicately hand painted, while her kimono displays fine brushwork and thoughtful detailing. The baby carried on her back is rendered in the style of a traditional dentō kokeshi, creating a harmonious blend of classic and creative forms. The small child is 7.5cm tall and also beautifully detailed.
