A netsuke is a form of small sculpture which developed in Japan over a few hundred years. Netsuke are both functional as well as aesthetic and used by men to support a small pouch (sagemono) on a silk cord and also the use of a carved ojime bead.
Netsuke come in a variety of materials but mostly wood is used.
This netsuke is a lucky rat from the12 Buddhist zodiac animals.
